impressive because Butte is a very red county with a blue smudge
in the middle called Chico (and 'old' Chico at that, not the newer
outskirts.) So the rural landowners must have opposed fracking
(the same ones who opposed the measure there in late 2004 to ban
GMO's like we did earlier that year.) What a pleasant surprise!

Greetings all you Mendocino Water defenders!

Congratulations on passing the first big hurdle
and to those who put their shoulder to the wheel
to make sure all the I's were dotted and t's
crossed - Kelly and Korina you really held it
down, and to the whole team of folks who were
working to make it happen. I also saw the list
of proponents, great job!
I have some thoughts/ideas below in blue..

Volunteer
training(s) for signature jam Ultimately
the best trainer is Prajna – if there is any
way you can raise a few funds to bring her up
for that, I would recommend it (Prajna does
not get paid through Global Exchange, she
volunteered her time to join us for the
Training in Fort Bragg). I’m happy to come up
to help, my only costs as you know are car
rental and gas. ;-)
Training new folks in the fundamentals of
rights-based organizing – train the
trainers – I’d love to work with a team of
folks who will train new people on a 1-2 hour
no-books hands on training, so you can do it
for yourselves or in partnership with me
anytime. Be good to figure out when my next
trip is to Mendocino County, and pack my time
full of all sorts of meetings, trainings,
whatever your needs are.

MEDIA and SOCIAL MEDIA – so I don’t
know if you have a website up, but within a
very short period of time you’ll want to let
folks see the ordinance and to have some
materials for folks to get involved and learn
more about it. Not many groups like yours have
had their own website, but I think if you have
the wherewithall to have a website it would
be good to do. It is time to create a media
strategy- including OpEds and other
“announcements” of your network, the ordinance
and the campaign. Who makes decisions about
our Water water water – residents or someone
else? Some media hooks include the drought in
general, the recent McCutcheon case at SCOTUS,
and fracking.
